Terms of business
Grid connection applications
Version 1.0 · 21 August 2026 · Fort Energy Limited
These terms cover the free grid connection application service offered through this site. They do not cover installation work, which is quoted and contracted separately.
Before publication. These terms should be reviewed by a solicitor, particularly sections 6 and 8. If you begin collecting network operator fees, section 6 must be revised and the Letter of Authority wording revisited at the same time.
1. Who we are
Fort Energy Limited, 40 Middlegate, Morpeth, Northumberland. We are an MCS certified installer (MCS 68788) and a member of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC 00078143).
2. What we do
When you complete an application on this site and sign a Letter of Authority, we act as your agent in respect of the electricity connection at your property. That means we:
- Prepare the technical submission, including the schematic drawing
- Identify the correct network operator and submit the application
- Correspond with them on your behalf and answer their questions
- Tell you the outcome, and give you the decision and the supporting documents
3. What it costs
Nothing. We make no charge for preparing, submitting or managing your application, and there is nothing to pay at the end.
Network operators do not usually charge for domestic applications. Some larger or more complex schemes attract an assessment fee set by the operator. If that applies to you we will tell you the amount before anything is submitted, and you decide whether to proceed. We will never commit you to a cost without asking.
4. You are under no obligation
The connection decision is issued in your name, for your property. You may take it to any installer you choose. Using our service does not oblige you to buy anything from us, and we will not treat your application as permission to sell to you.
If you would like a quotation there is a button at the end of the application. If you do not press it, we will send your approval and leave you alone.
5. What we need from you
We rely on the information you give us. Please make sure it is accurate as far as you know — particularly your supply number, your main fuse rating, and any generation already installed at the property.
If information turns out to be wrong, an application may be delayed, returned or refused. Where that happens through no fault of ours we will tell you and, if you wish, resubmit at no charge.
You confirm when you sign that you own the property or are authorised to act for whoever does. If you are a tenant or leaseholder we will need the freeholder's written consent before submitting.
6. Fees payable to a network operator
Where a network operator charges an assessment fee, we will tell you the amount and, if you choose to proceed, collect it from you and pay it to the operator on your behalf as your agent.
We pass on the operator's charge exactly. We add nothing to it — no handling charge, no processing fee, no margin.
Fees paid to network operators are not refundable by us once they have been paid on. Whether the operator refunds anything is a matter for them.
7. Timescales
Your part takes about ten minutes. After that, how long a decision takes is set by your network operator and varies by region and by how busy they are.
We do not guarantee any timescale for a network operator's decision, because it is not within our control. We will tell you what is typical for your area, keep you informed, and chase them on your behalf.
8. Our responsibility to you
We will carry out the application with reasonable skill and care.
Because this service is provided free of charge, our liability is limited as follows, except where the law does not permit it:
- We are not liable for a network operator's decision, its conditions, or how long it takes
- We are not liable for losses arising from information you gave us that was inaccurate or incomplete
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost savings, lost generation income, or costs arising from a delayed installation
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
9. Your Letter of Authority
The Letter of Authority you sign appoints us as your agent for this connection only. It does not permit us to accept a connection offer on your behalf, or to commit you to any cost. Any offer is referred to you for a decision.
It lasts twelve months, or until you withdraw it in writing, whichever comes first. To withdraw it, email us and we will stop acting immediately and tell your network operator.
10. Ending the arrangement
You may stop at any time, at no cost, by withdrawing your Letter of Authority.
We may decline to submit an application, or stop working on one, if we cannot obtain the information or consents needed, if the information given is materially inaccurate, or if proceeding would be unlawful or unsafe. We will tell you why.
11. Safety
We ask for photographs of your meter and the sealed cut-out beside it. Take these from where you are standing. Never open, unscrew, unseal or interfere with any part of your electricity supply. It is live, it belongs to your network operator, and interfering with it is dangerous and an offence. If you cannot get a photograph safely, say so and we will obtain it ourselves.
12. Complaints
Please tell us first — email hello@fortenergy.co.uk and we will acknowledge within five working days.
As a RECC member we are bound by the Renewable Energy Consumer Code. If we cannot resolve a complaint about installation work between us, you may refer it to RECC's dispute resolution service. See recc.org.uk.
13. General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your application is the one published when you submitted it.
Your information is handled as described in our privacy notice.
